Emerging builders trained by NHBRC deliver quality homes for needy beneficiaries in Port Alfred.
The MEC of Human Settlements in the Eastern Cape Ms Nonkqubela Pieters handed over seven houses built by Emerging Home Builders who received training from NHBRC on 28 January 2019.
The NHBRC in partnership with Ndlambe Local Municipality trained the SMME’s in Home Building Technical Skills Training.
MEC Pieters said the department is prioritising the creation of opportunities for SMMEs through procurement and development opportunities towards sustainable business enterprise.
“Local contractors were appointed for two housing development projects; 5 SMMEs for the Bushmans River Mouth 29 and 7 SMMEs for the Nemato 120 (Phase1).In Bushmans River Mouth, they have already completed 10 units for the benefit of the destitute and vulnerable beneficiaries, ” said MEC Pieters .
She reiterated Department efforts of prioritizing the elderly, disabled, child headed families and military veterans, by providing them with decent homes.
One of the beneficiaries to receive a new home on the day was 80-year-old elderly women Ms Zanyiwe Manyati from Bushmans River Mouth.
Another a beneficiary a 50-year old lady living with disability, Ms Siziwe Veto received a new home with special features that meet her needs in line with human settlements approved norms and standards for disabled beneficiaries.
